Majnun Layla: 1001 Dreams

I'm in Japan visiting my wife's family right now... took some pictures last week on the train into Tokyo from Narita, and altho blurry they came out rather interesting.  the motion appears fast, but feels slow, almost dreamlike.

This is one of my favorite pieces of artwork.  I've had the poster below since i was much younger, perhaps over twenty years, and had it framed about ten years ago.  An enhanced version of this photo is here.

It's from a book by Antonio Lopez called Antonio's Tales from the 1001 Nights.  The book is a modified & illustrated version of Sir Richard Francis Burton's translation of The Arabian Nights, also known as The Book of One Thousand and One Nights (Alf Layla wa Layla), related by the famous fictional storyteller Scheherezade.

I recently purchased the book used.  It seems that Antonio Lopez was a relatively well-known artist in the fashion world during the 60's & 70's, but passed away in the late 1980's.  An in-depth review of his work is here.  I haven't been able to locate an online version of the image, altho i believe these images are also his work.
